Blitar, sebuah kota di Provinsi Jawa Timur, Indonesia. Terletak sekitar 167 Kilometer dari Kota Surabaya dan 73 Kilometer dari Malang.

Tahukah Anda darimana asal nama Blitar?

Mari kita simak sedikit sejarah dari Kota Proklamator ini.
Dalam beberapa buku sejarah, salah satunya adalah buku Bale Latar disebutkan bahwa Blitar telah didirikan sejak abad ke-15 Masehi. Sebelumnya daerah Blitar berupa wilayah dengan hamparan hutan lebat.

Suatu hari Majapahit memerintahkan Nilasuwarna untuk ‘babat alas’ atau membuka hutan selatan (sekarang daerah Blitar) yang saat itu dihuni oleh pasukan Tartar. Pasukan Tartar adalah para pemberontak yang melawan Majapahit. Setelah para pemberontak berhasil ditumpas, Nilasuwarna mendapatkan hadiah dari Majapahit untuk mengelola hutan selatan (Blitar), dan ia pun menjadi Adipati Ariyo Blitar I.

Nah, berdasarkan sejarah tersebut, akhirnya muncullah kata Blitar yang berasal dari istilah Balitar (Bali Tartar). Nama ini jadi pengingat atas kesuksesan Nilasuwarna menaklukan pasukan Tartar di daerah itu.
Blitar adalah Kota wisata yang memiliki beragam oleh-oleh khas Blitar. Terdapat banyak sekali Oleh-oleh Khas Blitar yang beredar di pasar. Salah satu yang cukup terkenal adalah Opak Gambir atau yang juga disebut Kue Semprong.

Opak Gambir Khas BlitarOpak Gambir (Kue Semprong) adalah Makanan Khas Blitar yang memiliki rasa gurih dan manis. Terbuat dari tepung terigu dan sari buah yang dimasak dalam cetakan tipis dan panas. Sehingga memiliki tekstur yang tipis. Biasanya Opak Gambir dibentuk seperti kerucut (contong) dan bentuk stik mirip astor.

Opak Gambir (Kue Semprong) pun menjadi sajian special untuk “suguhan tamu”, “suguhan manten”, hingga “suguhan hari raya” di kalangan Masyarakat Jawa Timur pada umumnya. Banyak wisatawan yang membeli Opak Gambir di berbagai toko sebagai oleh-oleh untuk dibawa pulang.
